Effective March 16, 2020, PathGroup will begin to offer testing for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). This test is to be ordered only for individuals who meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) clinical and/or epidemiological criteria for testing. Allergies are a common, yet overlooked, disease and the most common health issue that affects children in the U.S. An estimated 4.2 million children in the U.S. have a food allergy to things like peanuts, eggs, milk, wheat, tree nuts, fish and shellfish.

About 650,000 people in the United States die of heart disease every year, making it the leading cause of death in the U.S. The most common risk factors of heart disease are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking. Nearly 50% of Americans have at least one of these risk factors.

Along with our large community of Women’s Health providers, PathGroup recognizes January as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month and celebrates the efforts of these healthcare providers in screening, diagnosing, and treating women affected by cervical cancer.
Over 13,000 new cases of invasive cervical cancer are diagnosed every year and it is most commonly diagnosed in women ages 35 to 44. In 2019, an estimated 4,250 women died of cervical cancer. Before the introduction of the Pap test, cervical cancer was one of the most common causes of cancer death in women in the United States.

Influenza, the most common respiratory virus, occurs in the fall and winter months spanning from mid-October to March in the United States. An estimated 40 million flu illnesses occurred during the 2018-2019 flu season in the U.S. which lasted nearly 21 weeks, the longest flu season in a decade.

1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in their lifetime making breast cancer the most common cancer among American women. About 270,000 new cases of breast cancer in women will be diagnosed in the United States in 2019 and nearly 42,000 women will die from the disease.

In September, PathGroup recognizes Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Both of these cancers affect a significant population in the United States.
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 9 men in the United States and 1 in 41 men will die from the disease making prostate cancer the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S.
Ovarian cancer affects 1 in 78 women in the United States and nearly 80% of them will be diagnosed in advanced stages. For this reason, ovarian cancer leads to more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system.
