PHLEBOTOMY SUPERVISOR

Athens, GA and Charlotte, NC

Duties:

  • Implements the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for phlebotomy services in accordance with PathGroup guidelines and distributes information to phlebotomists as needed.
  • Provides leadership and supervises assigned department, makes decisions, solves problems, assists in developing procedures, conducts and attends meetings.
  • Manages the employee hiring process including developing and updating job descriptions, developing performance expectations, identifying essential functions and knowledge, skills and abilities required for applicable positions.  Participates in the interview and selection process of phlebotomist employees.
  • Supervises employee and team performance, new employee orientation processes, employee training and continuing education.
  • Manages employee performance by coaching, counseling, motivating, and evaluating employees on a continual basis.  Implement disciplinary action as needed and in consultation with Phlebotomy Manager and Human Resources.
  • Coordinates the work of phlebotomist in the Patient Service Centers and In-office Phlebotomy (IOPs) to assure that production is consistent and service levels are maintained. Plays an important role in the dissemination of information to employees.
  • Performs site visits as assigned, and document findings. Assists with QA (quality assurance) audits.
  • Ensures effective employee relations by sustaining an ethical, non-discriminatory and safe work environment while concurrently establishing effective communication lines and methods.  Identify and solve employee problems, manage conflict, and respond to grievances as needed.
  • Maintains and determines usage of department supplies and inventory.
  • Ensures all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
  • Fills in to provide coverage for phlebotomists at varying locations as needed.
  • Maintains required records and documentation.
  • Reviews and approves schedules with minimal overtime for employees and floaters.
  • Reviews and approves time/attendance entry of employees.
  • Assist with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
  • Approves time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period. Submits accurate expense and travel logs Monday for the week prior or as directed by management.
  • Demonstrates organizational commitment.
  • Adheres to departmental and company code of grooming and dress code and lab coat policies, appearing neat and clean at all times.
  • Utilizes time appropriately. Capable of maintaining fluctuating patient flow.

Requirements:

  • Licensed MLT with Associate’s Degree is required

CLINICAL LAB ASSISTANT II

Nashville, TN

Duties:

  • Responsible for accurately capturing computer images for using software.
  • Performs data entry concerning patient demographics information, copying requisitions for case folders, and imaging.
  • Handling of specialty specimens including assembling specimen folders, printing labels, sorting samples by department, filling out paperwork for add-on testing and sending out samples for reference testing.
  • Cover-slip, clean, and file specialty testing slides.
  • Maintaining and stocking consumable supplies for the department.
  • Receive inbound calls from physicians, laboratories, nurses, clients, sales reps, clinics, and hospitals and directs those calls to appropriate personnel and communicate with clients, as necessary.

CYTOGENETIC TECHNOLOGIST II

Duties:

  • Performs all duties of a Cytogenetic Technologist I.

ACCESSIONING CLERK

Duties:

  • Receives specimens from couriers and verifies that specimens recorded on courier logs are received.
  • Triages, prioritizes, and sorts specimens appropriately for accessioning and processing.
  • Performs data entry login of patient demographics, clinical information, specimen source, and test(s) orders from specimen requisitions into computer systems and accessions specimen containers as needed or required.
  • Checks test(s) ordered for medical necessity requirements and ABN if applicable.  Documents any orders, which are lacking appropriate documentation to supervisor.
  • Documents all problem cases appropriately.
  • Scans requisitions and all related paperwork, into the scan system, and shreds documents as needed.
  • Reviews specimen requisitions against data entry of requisition information, for accuracy, documents errors noted and forwards documentation to supervisor, and corrects errors found.

PATHOLOGIST ASSISTANT

HISTOLOGY GROSSING ASSISTANT

Nashville, TN

Duties:

  • Accession all tissue specimens and make cassettes.
  • Assist pathologist and pathologist assistants in cutting room.
  • Gross and submit tissues under the direction of the pathologists and pathologist assistants.
  • Perform frozen sections (location dependent).
  • Properly hang tissue on the processors.
  • Responsible for determining/selecting specimens for grossing.
  • Photograph specimens (Polaroid, digital, and 35 mm).
  • Prepare tissue to be sent out for further testing such as Lymphoma Phenotyping, Quantitative Iron studies, etc.
  • Make rounds with/without the pathologist, when needed.
  • Check campus surgery schedules for probable frozen sections, collect specimens from all campus surgery locations ensuring they are properly listed, and check the surgery board for add cases, cancels, and late specimens (location dependent).
  • Record the number of cases daily, maintain the log of decal specimens, and keep quality control charts on equipment in the accession and cutting room.
  • Prepare routine solutions, maintain an inventory of supplies and store in proper location and keep a clean work area.
  • Responsible for proper disposal and handling of hazardous waste to include xylene recycling (i.e. xylene, reagent alcohol, formaldehyde, B5) and dispose of specimens according to procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance on cryostats, both in house and in outlying hospitals (location dependent).
  • Review procedure manuals and stay current with procedural changes that have occurred.

Requirements:

  • Must be qualified as high complexity testing personnel under CLIA-88 regulations.  The minimum training/experience required of such personnel is:
  1. An earned associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, OR
  2. Education/training equivalent to the above that includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution.  This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.  In addition, the individual must have laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
  • In addition, the CLIA-88 regulations include exceptions for grandfathered individuals.
  • One to two years of prior job-related experience is preferred.
  • Must be computer literate with minimum typing speed of 30 words-per-minute.
  • Pathology technical skills and medical terminology experience is preferred.
