History
In 1965, Drs. Harry G. Browne and John B. Thomison, both pathologists, formed a partnership to provide pathology services for Nashville’s newly formed Park View Hospital, the first flagship hospital for Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). By 1971, the two doctors had organized Associated Pathologists, a growing physician-owned anatomic pathology group serving 8 hospitals in the Nashville area. PathGroup was officially founded in 1996, under the leadership of Associated Pathologists’ President Ben Davis, M.D. Through the years, PathGroup has acquired other physician-owned pathology groups, growing in size, reach and service. In 2003, PathGroup launched its Clinical Lab, and began to win contracts for larger medical centers and hospitals looking for a single source partner for pathology services and laboratory diagnostics. In 2006, PathGroup consolidated its histology, clinical and cytology labs into a 40,000 square-foot Grassmere facility in Nashville, Tennessee, and relocated to a 140,000+ square-foot industry leading comprehensive laboratory facility in 2019. Today, PathGroup is one of the largest privately-held pathology groups in the United States and a leader in the field of anatomic, clinical and molecular pathology laboratory services.
